Taiji Push-hands and Wu Dang hand weapons: exploring structure and destruction with the empty hand

The Wu Dang hand weapons are the original training methods from the art that would come to be known as Taiji (Tai Chi). The hand weapons are passive partner drills designed to teach the student various ways to strike with the empty hand, what anatomical weaknesses to exploit on the opponent, as well as the basic body mechanics of striking.

Push hands is the cornerstone of martial Taiji training. It is an active partner drill in which both partners refine and strengthen their structure while issuing and receiving force, as well as learning and implementing various ways of bypassing your opponents guard or countering your opponents offensive actions.

In this workshop we will cover the basics of taiji push hands and work through as many wudang hand weapons as time allows.
